In Person Trainings

Youth Mental Health First Aid 

Duration 

8 hours 

Description 

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach adults (e.g., parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, coaches, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens) who regularly interact with adolescents (age 12-18) on how to help young people in crisis as well as those experiencing challenges with mental health or addiction. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include: anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), eating disorders, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying.

Must be age 18 or older to attend Youth Mental Health First Aid Training.

Mental Health First Aid 

Duration 

8 hours

Description 

This training is designed to help people learn how to recognize the signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include: anxiety, depression, psychosis, substance use/addictions, trauma, and self-care.

Must be age 18 or older to attend Adult Mental Health First Aid training.

ASIST 

Duration 

2 days (16 hours total)

Description 

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is designed as an interactive workshop that teaches participants how to recognize when someone may be at risk for suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.

safeTALK

Duration 

3.5 hours 

Description 

Prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. People who participate in this training will be able to identify people who have thoughts of suicide and move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide. They will be able to apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen, KeepSafe) to connect a person with thoughts of suicide to a suicide first aid intervention caregiver.

Anyone who might want to help, minimum age 15 years old.

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR)

Duration

1.5 hours

Description

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.
